• The previous analysis was applied to a single element
• Finite element analysis requires the assemblage step, to analyze the entire model
• Example of an assemblage stiffness matrix:

• Therefore,

• If the axial load on member C is 1917 lb [2000xcos(63.43)], what is the deformation of member C?

 

        Thus,

        438*u_i + 0*v_i - 438*u_j + 0*v_j = 1917
        0*u_i + 0*v_i + 0*u_j + 0*v_j = 0
          -438*u_i + 0*v_i + 438*u_j + 0*v_j = 1917
        0*u_i + 0*v_i + 0*u_j + 0*v_j = 0

        Therefore,

        438u_i - 438 u_j = 1917
        (u_i - u_j) = 3.81

        Deformation = 4.38 in
